Caleb is turning his passion for running into a way to raise funds for the LCAC.

meet caleb sherrill:

My name is Caleb Sherrill, and I am an endurance athlete specializing in trail running and Ultramarathons. I was born and raised in Limestone County and a graduate of Clements High School.

Since my early teenage years, I have struggled with obesity, self-confidence, anxiety, and depression. These struggles led to a suicide attempt at the age of 17.

My life was a constant cycle of rotating emotions that I had no clue how to work through.

I was afraid to reach out and ask for help as I was afraid of judgment and lacked self-confidence. I was not happy in what should have been some of the happiest and easiest times of my life. I dealt with my emotions and problems the wrong way, staying closed off and pushing away the people that I cared for the most. I fell into the thought process of “this is never going to get better,” and I believed that statement for a long time.

When the Covid 19 pandemic first hit the world was filled with uncertainty. Jobs were furloughed or laid off, gyms and businesses closed, and a lot of us were cut off from our biggest support systems. Feeling myself fall back into old habits, I knew I had to do something and get my emotions, goals, and overall life back on track. So, I decided to do something hard, something I have always hated. I decided to run.

It was hard at first, but I stuck with it. As the weeks turned into months, I could start to see subtle changes in myself; mentally, emotionally, and physically. As the distances and time I spent running increased I noticed my mind starting to wander and work through my past, my emotions, and where I was mentally. For the first time in my life, I felt in control.

As I grew as a runner, I began to grow as a person. Running has changed my life. It has given me a sense of freedom but also the tools to work through everyday life. Running teaches you how to deal with adversity, worj through your problems, people, and overall difficult situations. It gives you a chance to go to battle with your innermost thoughts and work towards a more fulfilling life. A life full of peace, adventure, growth, and positive discomfort. Comfort is the enemy of growth. We have to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations to work through and heal from past trauma.

My goal is to use my life and what I have learned to help pass on those lessons to others. To prove that healing and happiness are possible for us all. We can all be the light in the darkness; to help, to comfort, be an advocate, and heal. No matter your past, you have control of your future.

LIVE FEARLESSLY ; WIN THE BATTLE
